“Happy Birthday! You are one year old today!” With this greeting, State Senator Mark Jansen surprised students of AnchorPoint Christian School at their September 6 chapel on the first school day of 2011-2012.
Recalling the launching of AnchorPoint just a year ago, Jansen thanked all who supported the new Christian school then and now. Currently, there are 101 students in Preschool-Grade 6, a growth of 21 from last year’s end count.
The chapel audience included students, staff, parents, grandparents, board members, pastors, and community members. From Principal Mulder’s introduction, they learned that Jansen works in Michigan government, often in Lansing, and has to learn and know a lot in order to vote about things such as children and schools. They also heard that Jansen, one of six children, attended Christian schools.
Jansen gave a surprise "birthday" gift to Principal Lael Mulder, for students and staff to open later and put to use during the school year.
