I want to teach my students how
To live this life on Earth.
To face it's struggles and it's strife
And to improve their worth.
Not just the lesson in a book
Or how the rivers flow, But how to choose the proper path
Wherever they may go.
To understand eternal truth
and know the right from wrong,
And gather all the beauty of
A flower and a song.
For if I help the world to grow
In wisdom and in grace,
Then I shall feel that I have won
And I have filled my place.
And so I ask your guidance, God,
That I may do my part.
For character and confidence
And happiness of heart.

We are living in the age of technology and communication which has presented us with both wonderful opportunities and a real lack of privacy and oversite. As children get older they want to be on sites like Instagram, Snapchat and others. The Terms of Service agreements for these sites restrict the use of the applications to individuals over 13. Even after the age of 13 parents are legally responsible for any and all actions a minor student does on-line. In addition because these apps are cloud based, none of the information ever goes away. A hastily written text and/or picture could haunt a child for years to come. Take a minute and actually read the Terms of Service Agreement, we all tend to just click through. Most troubling is the fact that when you use these applications, the apps reserve the right to use, modify, edit, and sell any and all content
As summer approaches it’s a great time to have a discussion about peer pressure and how to keep Christian values while online. Monitor your child’s devices as closely as you would any person they have contact with. Students here at AnchorPoint Christian have been taught to not use their real names on-line, to think before they post, and to talk with parents and respected adults about anything they see online that is troubling. Working as a team, both in and out of school, we can provide our children positive Christian experiences!

Here’s what a few people have said about Kids Rock Camp:
We are so blessed to have Kids Rock Camp in the summer for our kids! We love that our kids have the opportunity to participate in daily devotions, games/sports, and electives that interest them. The kids always love the staff and look forward to the friendships that they make over the summer. We don't know what we would do without camp!
Kids Rock Day Camp was an amazing experience for our son. He had attended traditional day care center programs during prior summers, but felt as though he was getting too old for that setting. Kids Rock was the perfect solution! The activities and weekly themes are diverse and the elective choices are interesting. He was so happy there and developed his teamwork skills tremendously. We look forward to returning next summer!
Kids Rock Summer Camp was a huge blessing to our family. Great care and fun times!
Kids Rock has been a HUGE blessing for our family this summer. Our girls had a great time - learned lots of fun things, had lots of fun. It was a blessing for me to be able to go to work and know that my girls were being very well cared for and having an amazing time!!!!
Our 3 grandchildren each had a week at Kid's Rock in Grand Rapids. They came home each day full of excitement and couldn't wait until the next day. The counselors were wonderful!

All children in the City of Wyoming and surrounding areas are invited to attend! You do not need to be an AnchorPoint student to sign up!
Our whole school has been learning the Apostle's Creed. Learning has been happening via memorization, song, hand motions and even with the use of Legos! Check out this video of the Apostle's Creed depicted with Team 2's Lego creations!
MANY THANKS to the Calvin (College) Academy for Lifelong Learning!
CALL awards $200 grants to its members who volunteer in their communities and identify needs where they serve. An AnchorPoint volunteer applied for a $200 CALL grant to purchase reading books and matching audio CDs to stock our Team 2 Listening Center. The entertaining stories are of various types of literature at different reading levels, to help students grow as successful, enthusiastic readers.
Using the Center’s headphones in a “literature circle”, up to six students can sit quietly, following along in their books as a fluent narrator on CD reads that same book. Audio books deepen the reading process by exposing listeners to different reading styles. And students love it!
We are blessed by CALL’s partnering with us to provide joy in learning!
During the month of December AnchorPoint students at all grade levels experimented with computer programming or writing in "Code". A wonderful site they used was hourofcode.com - a great learning site for those cold days when they stayed inside at recess. We ended the year with our Makerspace Day which the students loved! See previous post for pics and more info.
Students will begin a Computer Assisted Design unit in January. Older students will be using Google Sketch-Up, TinkerCad and 3D Tim to create 3D objects. We are going to be getting our 3D printer going as well so look forward to seeing some models come home! Younger students will be using Brick building and Lego Designer to create objects in 3D. We will also use Roblox Studio to create 3D worlds similar to Minecraft.
Students willalso be reviewing internet safely rules. For example, a good rule of thumb when using email is to expect it will be read by a much larger audience than you may have intended. Once something is sent it remains on the Internet Service Providers computer.
Stay tuned for further technology updates!
